Singer and educator Marisa Petraglia presents the fantastic singing story "Mr. Tickle and the Scary Halloween” by Roger Hargreaves, exploring the story's narrative through sounds and music!
A note from Marisa:
It is well-known that reading stories is important for developing children's literacy skills. But what’s better for children than simply reading stories? The Singing Stories!
Using singing and interactive musical activities to bring those tales to life can make the experience even more educational and meaningful for them—and for their parents too!
Children learn words and language skills from listening and engaging in stories, songs, and conversations. By sharing stories and singing with your child, you are helping them to become more familiar with words and sounds. Likewise, singing a story instantly engages a child’s brain, with music affecting multiple regions of the brain—one side of the brain processes the words while the other processes the music.
I’ve personally written melodies for this specific story and recorded in advance simple sounds and harmonies that can support my singing of the story. The melodies and the choice of sounds, colours, materials and musical activities have the intention to bring little children on the journey of discovery for new words, new sounds, and a whole new world of emotions hidden inside the story.
The JazzyBees Singing Stories are not a passive experience for children. When children actively participate in the telling of the tale rather than just passively listening, their level of focused attention is heightened. Singing stories have the opportunity to improve the child's ability to understand the stories, reinforcing the narrative skill, and the recall of the narrative.
So make a date with me and the PARLOUR and introduce your child to this whole new world of music and creativity—I really hope to see you and your little ones there!
